embellished dress neckline

dress – c/o house of fraser

it’s very rare i find items of clothing that fit me perfectly. i’m short (a little under 5′ 1″) and, uh, curvy too. both of those combined don’t seem to be a thing that’s catered to that much in terms of clothing. there’s petite items, but from what i see they’re almost solely for slimmer ladies, and there’s plus size clothes, but they’re either always too big in every dimension, or assume that bigger women are of average height, so don’t fit in terms of length/waistline placement.

i was so, so happy to see this petite dress in house of fraser in a size i normally go for. i was initially worried it’d be too big, or fit everywhere other than the bust area. to my surprise it fits absolutely perfectly! well, to be totally honest i didn’t realise it’s a tiny bit big around the armholes until i took these photos (which i can now quickly take in with a little stitch). but other than that little thing, yes, it is now one of the best fitting dresses i have. oh joys!

i love the sparkly embellished neckline. i typically don’t like statement necklaces, but as a neckline on a dress i really like it. it’s not over the top, but takes the dress to a new level. i have to warn though, it’s probably best to wear this with your hair up, as when i’ve worn it down with this dress, my hair kept getting caught. the bottom/skirt area is slightly pleated which helps create a bit of shape and (technical term) whooshiness. also i gotta say, i like that it doesn’t seem to crease much, which is always a bonus in my eyes. a+ house of fraser!

So pretty! It looks like it would be really versatile too, the sort of thing you could easily dress up or down with different shoes and accessories. Good find!

yes! it really is a versatile dress, and as long as it still fits, could see me wearing this for years to come.

Oh it’s so pretty! You look lovely – looks like a really versatile dress too. You could dress up for a wedding / evening event and dress down for a lunch out or work meeting. Gorgeous. x

exactly what i thought! it’s just the right kind of ‘dressy’ that you could dress it up or down super easily.

Gorgeous dress. Being in the short and curvy camp too, I love how flattering this dress is, even though it has quite a high neckline. Whooshiness is always great too x

isn’t it! yeah i often don’t go for high necklines (v and scoop necks for the win ..though i like boat neck too) but this somehow looks really nice (i think, anyway).

You look gorgeous and I have total fringe envy… how do you make it look so sleek?! *reaches for the kitchen scissors*

thank you! ha, a couple weeks ago it didn’t look so good. always looks weird when its freshly cut, but better when it’s settled. i think because i have super straight hair it probably looks a bit nicer (aka smoother) than it actually is in photos.

Such a lovely dress! I’m short too (5’4) and it can be tricky finding things that are the right length and don’t massively swamp you, can’t it? x

haha, yes, it’s hard! most clothes are too big in at least one dimension *sigh*

You look gorgeous, and I love the built in necklace feature too, just makes it a bit special without being too over the top x

So pretty. I always struggle to find clothes that fit me too as I’m quite short but I think my legs are out of proportion and extra short as dresses are always too long! x
