10 of my favourite albums

10 of my favourite albums - including beach boys and todd rundgren

i love music. i’m pretty sure everyone loves music, though. i’ve never met a person that doesn’t like something. in a bit of a ‘getting to know me‘ exercise i wanted to share with you 10 of my favourite albums. these albums are the ones that get me through all the ups and downs in life or ones i just enjoy listening to for the sake of it. the ones i go to time and time again and never, ever tire of.

if i had to choose my favourite genres of music it’d be blues/soul, jazz and post punk. if i was to compile a longer list of favourite albums, it would definitely reflect that. there’s many (many) more i could have added, but i kept it to a neat 10. i would love if you could share some of your favourites with me too!

chet baker – chet baker sings
beach boys – pet sounds
aretha franklin – aretha now
marvin gaye – in the groove/i heard it through the grapevine
todd rundgren – a wizard/a true star
cocteau twins – heaven or las vegas
nina simone – pastel blues
converge – no heroes
cult of luna – somewhere along the highway
xtc – skylarking/mummer (i can’t choose)

YES to the Beach Boys! I don’t know if it’s the summery vibes of their music or that I have happy sunshine memories of my parents listening to the Beach Boys when we on holiday as a kid, but either way – makes me feel like summer. Might get it on right now actually and introduce the baby to some tunes…

i know what you mean! a lot of people associate them with summer, so even if you decide to listen to them in the winter you still get that summery vibe. we actually always listen to pet sounds on christmas day!

ahh yes, i think quite a few people listened to them in their childhood. and oh, that’s interesting. is it lack of being able to sit and listen time related, or something else?

Oh my goodness, Cocteau Twins – Heaven or Las Vegas. I only have to hear it and I’m transported back to my 16 year old self. I want to listen to it now but I might cry (for my lost youth). Beautiful album – great list!

Ahhh, you’ve got such cool taste in music – I used to be a big music fan but just tend to stick Radio 4 or BBC6 Music on these days!

great post! i literally just posted about the first track off pastel blues. i don’t know nina simone’s work back to front by any means but she has an incredible voice and she’s someone i’ve recently gotten into and have been appreciating more and more. also if you want to hear an awesome story about her you need to check out 20,000 days on earth – there’s this amazing scene where warren ellis is telling my boo nick cave about a nina simone gig and the story is incredible!

YES to Todd Rundgren, so happy to see that on the list as his stuff is oft-overlooked.
