recently i had the absolute pleasure of illustrating a piece for the wonderful betty magazine. i was in the previous issue, but with pieces i’d already made (albeit amended) so it was wonderful to make something from scratch this time!
the theme of the issue is all things floral and nature, and the article i was chosen to make an illustration for was titled ‘the perks of being a shrinking violet’ ..something i identify well with! i got a synopsis of the article to help get the ideas flowing, and evidently it worked because i came up with this pretty quickly!
initially it was a touch more complicated, but true to my style and instincts it ended up being a little more simple and minimal. what do you think? i’m not overly keen on purple but i think it works really well here. the different tones and the little bit of pink and other colours perk it up.
it’s always wonderful to see your work in print, especially in a publication you admire and surrounded by many other talented illustrators, photographers, writers and other creatives.

Laura I absolutely love your work and this new piece is fantastic – I am not a huge fan of purple but I totally agree it works really well here and is such a greta interpretation of the brief – well done for being featured in Betty magazine – very well deserved

i do quite enjoy finding ways to work in colours that i’m not as keen on, but obviously lilacy, violet purples were perfect for this piece! thank you :)
