productivity, creativity and inspiration

as bloggers, writers, illustrators and creatives of any kind, from time to time we all get creative block. it might be a for a few hours, days, weeks, or ..scarily, even longer than that. often the best thing to do is get out of the area you’re working in and get outside.

even just a few minutes is beneficial to your frame of mind. i’m a firm believer that you should never force creativity. yes, you may have tight deadlines, but if you burn out you’re going to make things worse. taking a break even for a few minutes can be a life/sanity saver.

i know a lot of people think procrastination is evil, but you can procrastinate and keep it relevant to your chosen form of creativity too! for example, you can read about other creatives, listen to creative podcasts, watch TED talks ..there’s a lot of procrastinating to do! (infact, sometimes amazing ideas can come from what you’re doing when you’re procrastinating from what you really are meant to be working on) this isn’t really about procrastination, but bare with me.

here are some places you can read and learn about productivity/efficiency, creativity and inspiration that are sure to help you get out of that creative block. this isn’t even beginning to scratch the surface of places where you can find and learn about productivity, creativity and inspiration ..but it’s a start.

creative pep talks from andy j miller. (who is incredibly inspiring!)
the pomodoro technique
stop destroying your life’s potential
no notifications, no problems
isaac asimov asks how do people get new ideas?

i try not to read this sort of stuff too often as it can be a bit counter intuitive but it's always good to have a back up of articles and posts to read when you feel lacking. i've read one of those posts, so shall read the other! and thanks for mentioning that podcast as i've not heard of it :)

it can be so hard to get out of, and i am very guilty of doing it when other things are much more pressing. luckily most of the time i can shake myself out of it, haha!
