favourite finds: pinterest

miscellaneous by

i thought this would be a good thing to do every now and then, to share images from around the ‘net that i like/love, and things that inspire me. also because i just want to share. i don’t want to commit myself to something i potentially may not remember to do or stick to, so i’ll stick with ‘every now and then’ and see where it goes from there.

todays pick is from some of my pinterest boards. pinterest is addictive, isn’t it! you can find me here if you are so inclined. i’ll be posting two today and two tomorrow, so come back! if you follow me on twitter i’ll be posting a link to it. if you don’t, follow me here.

firstly, from my type board:

pinterest type selections

i definitely have a fondness for ampersands. i’m not quite sure what it is about them, but they just make me feel good somehow. this one by darren booth is particularly fine! i’ve also noticed that i’m quite drawn to single letter typography/lettering over quotes and such, i think it’s because they look a bit more graphic and bold ..but that doesn’t mean i don’t love quotes etc.

then my home decor & studio board:

home pinterest selection

1// folk rug    2// amber interiors   3// from scandanavia with love   4// zinnia folk arts

that rug is pretty fantastic, no? i love the colours and relatively simple look. i really want and/or will need a wall height bookcase someday. i love books of all types (but especially art and visual books) and can see that one day i will be buried underneath them all. when i have my own home that i can decorate however i want, i can’t decide whether i want something bursting with colour and texture or something that is for the most part black, white and grey, but with occasional pops of colour. time will tell!

my work by

this wasn’t the post i was originally intending to write on friday, but some things have happened that have driven me away from the computer, and my trusty glue and scissors. and i just haven’t had the time to take photos that do justice to what i want to show you. it feels so wrong to me to not be creative, even for a few days, especially as i’m having so many ideas at the moment. i’m hoping things in my day to day life will improve, and then i can focus more on doing what i love. it is my lifeline, and i know many of you feel the same way about what you love.i am aware that some of you may have already seen this on my tumblr, which is where my site was hosted for quite some time, but there’s some things that i’m proud or excited to have done, and want to have it documented here too. so every now and then i may be posting some older pieces, or older features on sites that i’m particularly proud of. what i wanted to show you today was this illustration i did for laura ashley. i’ve been a fan of them for most of my life, so i was very excited to be approached by them to do an illustration for their blog.

i was asked to choose a couple of products from their shop to illustrate, and i chose the white polka dot large jug and the white large resin poppy. i chose these particular items because i love the versatility of jugs; you can use them for drinks, flowers, for holding paint brushes, and many more things. and the poppy because poppies are my favourite flower. if you wish, you can read my interview on the laura ashley blog here. and here’s the illustration i did for them!  what do you think? i wanted to do something that would fit well with the brand, but also fitting to my style. it was also done entirely on the computer which is a rare thing for me!

a new begining

miscellaneous by

hello papercut collage with leaf on graph paper

hello!

for those of you that are new and don’t know me, my name is laura redburn, and i’m a mixed media collage artist/illustrator. though i am interested in other things such as typography, graphic design, photography, bookmaking, stamping, papercutting ..and many more! i currently live in cardiff, wales and would love to move to bristol once i can afford to. that will be another new beginning!

anyway, onto why you’re here:

i’ve decided to redesign my website in order to make it more portfolio based, rather than blog/portfolio in one like it was before. i think it looks much better now, as i can seperate more personal things in the blog, from work i want to show to potential clients and such.

so the portfolio area will be kept clean and simple, and the blog will be updated with news, almost all things i make, thoughts, things that inspire me ..you know the deal. for anybody that follows me on my cardboardcities tumblr, i will still update that with new works as always.

you can follow me on twitter, facebook and instagram

that’s all for now, and i would appreciate feedback on the new design!
