cardboardcities crush – rifle paper co.

totally crushing on by

i’m trying to come up with themes to encourage myself to post more regularly, alongside my own work and other illustrate-y? ..illustrative things. it’s something that helps me focus my thoughts towards a more positive and decidedly more pretty state of mind. its nice that if you’ve been sighing over something that you like that you can share it with (potentially) a lot more people. who doesn’t like sharing?

i thought i’d start off with rifle paper co. if you know me at all, you will know i LOVE flowers, nature, and all things of that ilk, as well as a rather obsessive thing for stationery. annas’ is the kind of work that makes me fawn and say “it’s SO PRETTY” ..it really is though. imagine if she did textiles/dresses! that would be a heavenly thing to look at or wear.

here’s some of my favourite bits from the shop.

rifle paper co prints

clockwise from top left: midnight floral wrapping sheet, scissor print, citrus floral print & blue floral card.

i would happily have all these on my wall. i especially love that the wrapping sheet could be quite versatile in that it could be a lovely wall print too. or it would make an amazing scarf if it wasn’t paper!

cardboardcities colour love: orange

colour love by

here’s the second colour post! the first was about red. i’m going to go through the basic rainbow colours, then black, white, and then every other colour inbetween i can think of. is there anything you’d particularly like to see? let me know!

today we are bathing in the warmth of orange.

» love the colours in this painting by sarah stilwell. i didn’t realise until recently that i’d seen some of her work before, but just never knew who did it.
» i know this josef albers painting is yellow too, but ..it does gradiate from orange. he sure knows his colours.
» this pattern makes me happy. that is all.
» these socks! i kind of have a thing for nice socks. my feet and whole body just feel so much better when i’m wearing lovely socks, and obviously ones with good designs help.
colour love - orange
» love that ‘c’!
» wonderful cushion from room39, there’s more colours to choose from too. i love everything on that site, but it’s not all orange so unfortunately can’t be featured in this post, ha.
» another thing i have an obsession with is notebooks, and this one fits right in with that. orange and gold look so nice together!
» if you’re in need of something to perk up your organising, i think this gradient file is the way to go.

etsy and new blog (kind of)

miscellaneous by

hello! i have two things to talk about today.

one //
my etsy shop is back! over the weekend i did try and set up my own shop via various sources but it was too much of a headache, and so i settled back with etsy. you can still buy prints, iphone cases, tshirts etc via my society6 shop, but the etsy will be more for original pieces and other handmade things in the very near future. i’ll be adding more collages over the next few days, so remember to keep checking back. i may do limited edition prints at some point, but right now i don’t have the funds for that. all the more reason to buy or commission an original piece! if you want to talk about anything else in regards to purchasing work, or just want to ask me something, feel free to email me here.

if you have any tips about selling on etsy, be sure to let me know in the comments.

i feel wrong doing a blog post with no pictures, especially one of this length, so here’s an example of one of my collages you can buy:

two //
incase you haven’t noticed, my blog is at a new URL, blog.cardboardcities.co.uk ..don’t worry, if you’ve linked to any post before this one, via the old URL, for example, this one about my day in bristol, it’ll still go to the correct place. it depends on how you got here, but if you click the ‘blog’ link on my site now it’ll automatically go to here. as you can see, i’m using the same colours and fonts, so it’s not a drastic change on your end, i hope. let me know what you think!

i decided to make the change for a couple of reasons (i’m using blogger now for the..uh..blog):

1: it seems like this and other similar platforms are more social. yes, i know i could’ve put more links etc here and there, but i didn’t want the clutter on the main site. i do like the minimal look, as you can see. you can also now follow me via GFC, (or subscribe to posts via email). which is useful for me because i can see who’s following me, and i can check out your blogs too! win/win!

2: i kind of prefer the blog and portfolio to be two seperate entities, and doing this has helped that. i’ve really started to get into blogging more now that i update more regularly. it makes sense really, doesn’t it.

3: i feel as having a blog i use a lot is also encouraging me to to take more photos, especially when i’m in the progress of making something. i like the idea of someone seeing into your world a bit. plus in a way it’s a bit of gentle pressure to myself to keep on working or at least do something creative on days that i don’t feel like doing anything.

4: before i made this change today, i was thinking about adding a links section on my site. afterwords, i thought maybe that’s not such a good idea, both for me and you. for me, because it takes away from the main purpose of the site, it being a portfolio for my work, and for you because people will have to find the link section to click on. you’d be surprised how many people won’t have a search around if it’s not right there in front of them. i would like to have a section with image links to blogs etc. at some point i’d like to introduce sponsors, but i’ll leave that for a while until i get into the swing of things again here.
