“The moon looks upon many night flowers; the night flowers see but one moon. ”― Jean Ingelow
flowers, fleurs, blomme
if there has ever been an everlasting love in my life, it’s flowers. no matter what, i’m always going to love them. whether they’re in the wild, store bought, a pattern on a dress or trinket, or in a painting. whatever their form, the love is strong. for as long as i can remember they’ve been, well, almost a part of my identity it seems.
thinking back, it must have been my dad, but most likely my grandparents that started this love. we always had flowers of some sort in the garden, and my grandparents were keen gardeners. most of my flower and nature based memories stem back to them though. going to garden centers, playing in their garden, going for walks and them pointing out fluffy clouds of hydrangeas, bright yellow forsythia, beautifully scented jasmine and more.
“There are always flowers for those who want to see them.” ― Henri Matisse
at home i remember excitedly browsing seed and flower catalogues, flicking through nature books and my first ever ‘proper’ painting (as opposed to a childish scribble etc) was a bunch of flowers. that’s long lost but i wish i still had it. i can still remember almost exactly what it looked like, though.
you’ll see flowers a lot in my collages now, of course. and in my photos. when it comes to wearing them i’m particularly fussy so i don’t have that many clothes with florals on, but definitely a few. i also love going to rhs cardiff each spring, but sadly couldn’t go this year because of my tooth extraction. next year! locally, i try to visit roath park regularly, and pop into the conservatory too.
and of course whenever i go out for walks, or wherever i happen to be, flowers are always on my mind.
more: i have this thing with…
“I must have flowers, always, and always.” ― Claude Monet
