I made this collage in August of 2019 after a long time of not making anything. That sounds familiar…
At the same time, it kind of marked my slow ~comeback into creating collages again. Since then I haven’t made as much as I used to, or even as much as I’d like, but I’ve tried to make my peace with that. As any creative (artist, sculptor, photographer etc) will tell you, you often feel like a failure if you’re not working on something, or putting new work out there. Especially so in this social media age.
I wonder if artists in the time before the internet existed felt an unspoken pressure amongst their peers to constantly be making? Though I suppose they didn’t have the amount of distraction we have now. That said, unless you were a popular artist you’d have had to work much harder to put yourself out there than you would now. Not that it’s easy now either, ha!
Anyway, we live now, not in the past. So sharing where-ever you want to share, whenever you want to share is the way forward. You’re definitely not a failure if you’re not as prolific as others, or as you may have been in the past. Keep on making and keep on believing!
