wow, it’s almost half way through the month already! i feel like things are slowly picking up creatively, and have some pretty exciting things in the works which i’ll show you when i can. talking of that, i now have a little ‘commission me’ button on the side of the blog if you’ve found my work through here rather than my portfolio, which is cardboardcities.co.uk incase you were wondering.
this week i’ve been making badges for the shop! i’ll make some more once a couple of these sell. also, i’m going to be making some hand drawn ones on shrink plastic ..i’m thinking flowers and insects. i’ve never used it before so i’m rather excited about that. it’s okay to be excited right?
i’m in the latest issue of uppercase magazine! my collage is on the right, next to vivienne strauss on the left. i would love a copy for myself but can’t afford right now. does anybody know of any suppliers in the UK? i do have some good news though! if you use the code ‘contributor18’ you can get $10 off a subscription or renewal. you can also preview uppercase online for free if you want to see the awesomeness within.
i added yet another glass bottle to my collection! i do like pretty glass bottles. i really want some ceramic ones too. if you know of any good, affordable sources i’d love to know.
found this little kitty! i think it used to hold pot pourri or something. look at that cute little face!
also found this pencil …pot? in a charity shop last week. it was only 20p! i love charity shops.
ps. have you entered the trash things giveaway yet? you have until the end of the month, so there’s still plenty of time.

i’ve been really busy this week working on something special. hopefully i will be able to share it with you next week. because of that i’ve not taken many pictures this week because, well, who wants to see loads of pictures of a computer screen? i should have taken some more progress photos but i kept forgetting. there are a couple on my instagram though if you’re interested. talking of instagram, i’ll be doing a quick giveaway on there on monday, so make sure you’re following to take part!
what have you been up to this week? fill me in.
i found this lovely bug sitting on the counter top in the kitchen. it’s colour was so nice, such a perfect green.
added yet another glass bottle to my ever growing collection.
found this little butterfly brooch for 25p in a charity shop.
found my favourite little cat tin that i thought i’d lost!
a section of something i’ve been making for ‘the project’.
this has been a very floral week! lots of looking at and drawing flowers. did you see the floral pattern i made last week?
i really want to plant lots of flowers and plants in the garden. i have quite a few plants in the house, which do surprisingly well considering how dark it is aside from the bedroom. when i go out in the garden i often feel disheartened though. apart from some bluebells every year it’s pretty sparse. it’s totally paved, but that doesn’t mean there can’t be pots! i don’t want plain boring ones that you can get anywhere though. been keeping an eye out for good sturdy ones in charity shops but i’ve no money for any at the moment!
if by any chance you have any seeds or cuttings you could send my way, that would be so amazing!
not just good for my eyes and mind, but having plants about will be good for bees and other insects too.
on sunday i cut these flowers from the front ‘garden’. i’m not entirely sure what they are. does anybody know? they look like buddleja to me, but i’m not 100% sure on that. we used to have a huge purple buddleja bush in our back garden in the house i lived in as a child and the image of it always stuck in my head.
i’d been looking for a use for this beer bottle i got a while back ..which i bought just for the shape of it! ..the beer wasn’t bad either, ha. when i was cutting the flowers to put in the bottle, some of the smaller bits wouldn’t fit in, so i found a tiny jam jar i’d kept from christmas and put them in there. i think it looks so sweet!
lots of (what i’ve always assumed are) bluebells suddenly sprung up in the back and front garden. i love the colour of them against the garage door.
this is actually from last week, but i didn’t post any pictures then. this lovely green kitty is from emma of trash things. trash things sells brightly coloured, up-cycled home decor and accessories. fabulous stuff if you want to brighten up your home a bit! loving the poodle and bird figurines.
talking of cats ..ava was being such a poser when i was in the back garden taking photos, so i just had to take a photo of her too. what a cutie!

potential is a strange beast, isn’t it? most tend to think of it as a positive thing, the potential of something amazing happening, or opportunities that might come your way. it’s not always that way though, is it? when your mind is full of negative ‘what-ifs’ ..that’s potential too. thinking about what potentially could go wrong, things that haven’t actually happened, but could potentially turn your life upside down.
i know i’m being really vague here, but i’m 100% certain every single person has gone though those feelings in their lives, probably quite often too. there has been a lot on my mind this week, and it’s been very hard for me. some stuff that has been on my mind for months, and some things more recent.
i have decided today though, ENOUGH. the one thing that set all this off turned out to be nothing and although my life isn’t suddenly amazing (it wasn’t even nearing that to begin with) i can continue dealing with my everyday worries, but i can also get on with my life. focus on what’s good and try to keep it that way.
at a low point in the week i posted a status on twitter, to which someone responded with this speech by the ever wonderful neil gaiman:
there are many fantastic points in this, but one that i really took to heart. basically, if you feel you can’t do something, pretend you are a person that CAN do that thing. it causes you to look at things from a different perspective, to ‘get out of your head’ a bit and that can often do the world of good.
though i have done some small things, and taken photos this week, this has been a true snapshot of my my week, being depressed and anxious, but coming out of it intact and that little bit stronger.
