book spines

white book spines

‘oh my god she’s doing a blog post about book spines’ i hear you silently shout!

yes, that may be true, but there’s something so satisfying about books arranged by colour or in a pleasing way. or well, anything arranged by colour.  in some cases it probably isn’t the most practical way to arrange your books or magazines, but damn, it does look pleasing to the eye. do you do it, or do you prefer by genre, author, height …something else?

i (secretly) took these photos in the library where my boyfriend works. i was walking by the shelves was instantly drawn to them, so couldn’t resist taking a couple of photos. the last one is from a market in bristol a few years ago.

okay, now i want to arrange my books by colour…

yellow and cream book spines
orange and brown book spines

I love the idea of arranging books by colour, but then I get upset that authors and possibly series or books are separated by great distance. So my books are grouped by author, then again most of my spines are black so it all looks quite pretty anyway.
    These photos are gorgeous.

i totally get you! most of my books are art/design/whatever books so i don’t feel so upset about them not being in a particular order, but my ‘reading’ books’ are by author (then series order if there’s more than one).

Oh my gosh, yes I do this! In fact, also did a blog post about this just after we moved. There IS something mega satisfying about organsing stuff. I do my wardrobe my colour, but books are by genre and size. So glad I’m not the only one! :) x
