introducing a new series, book reviews! most of my books are art books, pattern books or creative-led ones, so i thought i’d be fun to share some of my favourite books and hopefully inspire people along the way :)
so, first up is creative block: get unstuck, discover new ideas by danielle krysa, creator of the well known blog the jealous curator. the book is basically an extension of her blog in that it showcases various artists, but it has the added bonus of interviews with the artists along with inspiration and mini creative projects from them, all in the name of getting you out of that creative rut!
i love the range of artists in this book, from collage to embroidery, lettering to painting, there’s some good variety. each artist featured has an interview and at the end they set out a project or challenge to get you out of whatever creative rut you may be in. even if you’re not currently in a …well, creative block, these projects can still help inspire you.
some are more simple like anthony’s above, and there are others that go more in depth. once again, i like that there’s ideas and projects that have a wider expanse, as well as simple and quick ones. i particularly like this from above (project 39):
in terms of looks, i think this book is well laid out, easily to ‘jump in’ at any point, and the pictures are nice and big. i’m always disappointed when art books have tiny, poorly reproduced images, and creative block: get unstuck, discover new ideas definitely does not disappoint!
one more thing; i discovered some fantastic new artists through this book, and hope you do too. do you have this book? what do you think of it?
